The Scokendia Ensemble lived up to everything it was cracked up to be! From the highly skilled musicians I got to meet and play with, the varied concert venues and environments, to the diversity of culture not only in the group, but in every place we visited. It was an experience that pushed my limits as a performer through the intense practise sessions, rigorous standards expected, and the expert advice and assistance I got. The energy and excitement of the programme were heightened by the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, and the amazing summer heat that was said to be uncharacteristic of Scotland, not to mention the beautiful scenery and architecture.

The social aspect of Scokendia was also an integral part of the experience. It was quite interesting how we all spoke English, but with such varied accents that at times understanding each other was a challenge, like a scene from the old television programme ‘Mind Your Language’. The Scokendia experience has lasted beyond Scotland, as evidenced by literally the hundreds of daily Whatsapp messages the group exchanges! I’m looking forward to Scokendia 2015, and beyond!
